Systems Administrator/DBA (Linux)

Now here is an interesting role! our rapidly expanding client are finding that more time than they would ideally like is being taken from their developers to deal with systems administration tasks. So they are looking for a Linux guru to come along and work some magic for them.

As a cloud app company, their systems admin needs are somewhat different. This is not about desktop support at all, but about the virtual Servers that support their development and testing environments, and increasingly about advising customers with their private cloud deployments too.

You will be very familiar with Linux (they use the Ubuntu flavour), networking (especially VPNs and Firewalls), systems monitoring practices (we use Zabbix) and ideally a database too (we use MySQL internally). Any exposure to a cloud platform such as AWS or RackSpace would be desirable, but not essential, as they will give training in this area.

Your role will include owning code repositories, continous build and automated testing processes, monitoring systems and backups, and advising on and implementing improvements to systems performance for ourselves and our customers. In return we offer a role with real job satisfaction, a good remuneration package, ultra-flexible working arrangements (with little or no unsocial hours), in a true team-based environment where everyone's ideas count. With offices in both Southampton and Near Reading the role will be based in which location suits you best.
